Just Over Coffee

Having left work to have my first baby, I found life quite lonely being at home all the time. I hardly knew anybody from the village where I lived, so I decided to take my 4 month old son to a local meeting of mums and babies at the local village church.

Soniadid I know how that first meeting would change my life. I met a couple of mums whose babies were born a few days either side of my son, so we had an instant connection. However, there was something different about these new friends. They had a different kind of joy, a really comfortable peace about them. Yes, they still had all the same baby problems any mum has but something was different.

After a couple of meetings I had coffee with one of the women. She explained a little of how her trust was in God, how Jesus had set her free and how she had found the true meaning of life! I was amazed! She was different in a wonderful way. Could this be the reason?

Many conversations later, I came to realise that I too could have a sense of peace in my life, contentment and a deep knowing of belonging to God. I came to realise that I had been separated from God by sin in my life. I had seen myself as a good person but realised that nobody can make themselves good enough for God by themselves. God wants a relationship with us and to break down the barrier between God and us he sent Jesus, his only son, to pay the price and restore our relationship with God. I found out that God loves me for who I am and I don't have to be perfect for him to love me.

Accepting Jesus was, and is, the best thing I have ever done. Since that time I have enjoyed getting to know God better. I experience his presence in my life daily and even though I still get things wrong, he loves me and forgives me. I can't imagine what my life would be like without this wonderful relationship with God.

If you would like to know more and how you too can have a personal relationship with God, King's Church Selby meets every Sunday at 11.00am on New Lane, Selby

As a young woman I never considered God. There never seemed a need to. Even when I left behind a disastrous marriage and entered into a phase of life searching for love and acceptance and I was incredibly unhappy. God didn’t enter my thoughts.
